Burmese Curry Place

In a sea of disappointing city lunches, Burmese Curry Place definitely stands out from the crowd. Situated in the bus interchange up from Pancake Parlour, it is not the atmosphere which draws the crowds each day, it is the amazingly cheap and tasty fare that they're dishing up. I discovered The Burmese Curry Place from a tip-off from a friend. I now pay it forward and tell everyone who will listen to me how awesome this place really is. It is not fancy with the food dished out from the baine marie in fron of you and often it is so busy that you can only get your food to take-away. Nevertheless, this place is total winner.

The smart thing about The Burmese Curry Place is that they only do one thing and they do it well. The deal includes any two dishes and rice for $6.99 take away or $7.99 eat-in. Choices include curries such as fish, sweet pork, beef and potato, fish cake, or egg, and stirfried chicken and green beans or chicken and prawn. With the flavours are light and spicy, somewhat similar to Vietnamese dishes. There is an unusual system to ordering here which is worth mentioning. Start by lining up at the cash register - pay and order by the dish's number (eg. 2 + 4). You then move into line two, which is the collection line, try not to get out of order either as it may confuse things. If you do look a little confused they'll soon put you in the correct line. For those eating in, there is rolled cutlery at the counter and you can leave your dirty dishes in the big bucket by the wall.

I guarantee that anyone who likes Asian food will love this joint. It's cheap, super tasty and unlike anything else in Canberra.
